SUMMARY:Free Show with Ranford Almond
DESCRIPTION:FREE \nBuy now \n\n\n  \n\nJoin us in Gloucester\, VA on 7/5 to hear Ranford Almond\, a young singer/songwriter and troubadour that has begun to make his mark across the Southeast! For the holiday weekend\, this show is FREE to all guests. The show starts at 6:30pm. The doors and Get Cheesy food truck open at 5:30pm. The show is set to be outside – bring a lawn chair! No coolers\, cups or\, outside drinks\, please. \nAbout the Artist: \nBringing the soul from Greensboro\, North Carolina\, Ranford Almond is a young singer/songwriter and troubadour that has begun to make his mark across the Southeast. Raspy fresh vocals meet the Appalachian strings of Ranford’s guitar\, reminiscent of John Prine and Townes Van Zandt with his own unique stamp. Furthermore\, his talent extends far beyond composition and acoustic picking\, as he is a warrior on the electric as well. Ranford plays as a solo artist and leads a full band. \nRanford Almond’s forthcoming full length debut Old Soul is due to arrive in 2023 and demonstrates the evolution of Almond’s ability as he grows as both a writer\, arranger\, and player. The album\, recorded at Ovation Sound\, will feature a litany of nationally recognized guests\, as well as the tutelage of its producer\, Bill Stevens. \nIn addition to Almond’s studio explorations\, his live history is evident of his growth on stage. Spreading beyond its home of the Piedmont Triad\, it has begun to meet new stages and audiences. Festival appearances include Mountain Music Festival\, Shakori Hills\, The New River Gorge Festival\, The Big What?\, Trail Days\, The Casual Campout\, and more. Other notable stand alone plays include headlining the grand opening of The Flat Iron\, appearing under the lights on the big screen of Winston Salem’s Drive In\, a feature and headlining appearance of the North Carolina’s “Writer’s In The Round” series and its live counterpart Singers & Songbirds. As of Winter 2023\, Almond made his Colorado debut as a solo artist in Steamboat Springs\, following his prior guest appearances with Big Something in the region. \nRanford’s live collaborative projects link him to significant established talent as well. Red Panda is a six-piece unit that sees him join forces with the likes of Nick MacDaniels with whom he also shares a duo\, and Jesse Hensley\, both of Big Something. Ranford can be found fronting a trio with Daniel Yount (Super Yamba Band)\, and Seth Barden\, two staples of the New York City scene. \n“Mature. These days\, it is not a term commonly used to describe someone of Ranford Almond’s age. However\, young Ranford displays a maturity in his songwriting that belies his young 23 years of age. Throughout his journey of folksy tunes\, abundant with lyrical depth and emotional songwriting\, it can be easy for the listener to mistake these songs as those of a much more rugged and traveled character\, grizzled by years of burden and heartbreak.”\n-Ryan McBrayer\, The Jamwich \n \n  \n\n\nFREE \nBuy now \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Good Shot Judy
DESCRIPTION:$20/$25 \nBuy now \n\n\n  \nThe Mid-Atlantic’s No. 1 high octane swing band\, Good Shot Judy is performing in Gloucester\, VA at Flat Iron Crossroads! \nThe show starts at 6:30pm. The doors and food truck open at 5:30pm. The show may be inside or outside depending on the forecast. \nFlat Iron Crossroads is a 501(c)3 non-profit performing arts center. Our team is 100% volunteer based\, join us! To reach us message on Facebook or email info@flatironcrossroads.com. \n \nIt’s hard to nail an exact moment when Good Shot Judy came to life. \nIt could have been when brothers Brett and Jeff Cahoon stepped away from the success they’d achieved with their punk band Ten Years from Now and chose instead to see what they could do with the old-time jazz standards they’d admired for so long. The brothers Cahoon formed a small combo\, and – wouldn’t you know it? – plenty of others felt the same groove. \nOr maybe it was when an inside joke made a name for itself. Their mother\, Judy Cahoon\, is an avid golfer\, and just as common as pars and birdies were three words of encouragement shouted by a supportive friend\, who pumped a fist and hollered across the fairway every time she took a swing: “Good shot\, Judy!” It became a funny family warble among the Cahoons – and as it turns out\, a solid band name\, too. \nOr perhaps that moment of creation arrived when Good Shot Judy freed their potential energy. Keen to give the classic melodies the respect and attention – as well as the power – that it deserved\, the Cahoons filled out Good Shot Judy with a full complement of horns\, percussion and vocals. And magic happened: an ensemble that was bigger than the sum of its parts. \nIn a sense\, Good Shot Judy was already in the stars long ago\, during those formative decades from the 1930s on\, when small jazz combos\, big brass bands and the crooners who sang on top of them were forging an enduring style and repertoire that would be written into the DNA of American music. \nBut really\, all these had a hand in making Good Shot Judy what is today: a big amp jazz band that sets stages aflame nationwide. \nAudiences may never consider that the Good Shot Judy show they’re seeing has been an evolution. They’re too captivated by the sound and spectacle of music that reaches through the time. They’re too caught up in performance that has one foot dancing in the past and one in the here and now. \nA Good Shot Judy show offers all those tunes you know just from growing up in American – songs you can at least hum along to\, if you don’t outright know most of the words. But the music itself is only part of the band’s allure; there’s something electric in the execution\, and it’s that vigor that carries the day as much as the pull of recognition. \nSo\, yeah\, there’s a history. And it’s a big one. Bigger than any one person. Bigger than any one band\, for that matter. But Good Shot Judy is as close as it comes to an intersection between an era’s defining sound and the pleasure of enjoying it the way it was meant to be heard. \n  \n\n\n$20/$25 \nBuy now \n\n\n
