SUMMARY:Fireside Collective
DESCRIPTION:$25/$30 \nBuy now \n\n\n  \nFireside Collective has drawn on folk\, blues\, funk and a wide variety of bluegrass sounds to create a distinctive body of work that’s all their own. Keep scrolling for the full bio and a music video! \nThe show starts at 6:30pm on Saturday\, August 16th. The doors and food truck open at 5:30pm. The show may be inside or outside depending on the forecast. \nFlat Iron Crossroads is a 501(c)3 non-profit performing arts center. Our team is 100% volunteer based\, join us! To reach us message on Facebook or email info@flatironcrossroads.com. \n \nInspired by the burgeoning art scene\, close knit community\, and natural beauty of Asheville\, North Carolina\, newgrass turned eclectic jam band Fireside Collective has been spent a decade working towards this very pinnacle. \nOriginal band members Joe Cicero\, guitar\, Jesse Iaquinto (mandolin)\, Tommy Maher (resonator guitar) and Carson White (bass) began playing together in 2014 when Iaquinto gathered the group of bluegrass enthusiasts to back up some of his original songwriting. \nWhen they began touring again after covid\, Fireside drew inspiration from jambands like The Grateful Dead\, the group’s agreed upon North Star. There was significantly more improvisation\, changing setlists from night to night\, and longer musical movements. With the introduction of Michael Tillis on drums in late 2023\, the sound expanded to include heavy funk elements as well as classic rock and even ventured into techno and world music. \nBy the end of 2024\, Fireside Collective had become a true hybrid\, with a strong foundation in bluegrass and folk\, and healthy doses of rock n’ roll and funk\, all blended together in a unique and colorful amalgam of original music. \n“Depending on where you come from and your experience with folk music\, you may think we’re very traditional\, or on the other hand\, consider us a progressive act\,” says Iaquinto. \n  \n\n\n$25/$30 \nBuy now \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Good Shot Judy
DESCRIPTION:$20/$25 \nBuy now \n\n\n  \nThe Mid-Atlantic’s No. 1 high octane swing band\, Good Shot Judy is performing in Gloucester\, VA at Flat Iron Crossroads! \nThe show starts at 6:30pm. \n \nIt’s hard to nail an exact moment when Good Shot Judy came to life. \nIt could have been when brothers Brett and Jeff Cahoon stepped away from the success they’d achieved with their punk band Ten Years from Now and chose instead to see what they could do with the old-time jazz standards they’d admired for so long. The brothers Cahoon formed a small combo\, and – wouldn’t you know it? – plenty of others felt the same groove. \nOr maybe it was when an inside joke made a name for itself. Their mother\, Judy Cahoon\, is an avid golfer\, and just as common as pars and birdies were three words of encouragement shouted by a supportive friend\, who pumped a fist and hollered across the fairway every time she took a swing: “Good shot\, Judy!” It became a funny family warble among the Cahoons – and as it turns out\, a solid band name\, too. \nOr perhaps that moment of creation arrived when Good Shot Judy freed their potential energy. Keen to give the classic melodies the respect and attention – as well as the power – that it deserved\, the Cahoons filled out Good Shot Judy with a full complement of horns\, percussion and vocals. And magic happened: an ensemble that was bigger than the sum of its parts. \nIn a sense\, Good Shot Judy was already in the stars long ago\, during those formative decades from the 1930s on\, when small jazz combos\, big brass bands and the crooners who sang on top of them were forging an enduring style and repertoire that would be written into the DNA of American music. \nBut really\, all these had a hand in making Good Shot Judy what is today: a big amp jazz band that sets stages aflame nationwide. \nAudiences may never consider that the Good Shot Judy show they’re seeing has been an evolution. They’re too captivated by the sound and spectacle of music that reaches through the time. They’re too caught up in performance that has one foot dancing in the past and one in the here and now. \nA Good Shot Judy show offers all those tunes you know just from growing up in American – songs you can at least hum along to\, if you don’t outright know most of the words. But the music itself is only part of the band’s allure; there’s something electric in the execution\, and it’s that vigor that carries the day as much as the pull of recognition. \nSo\, yeah\, there’s a history. And it’s a big one. Bigger than any one person. Bigger than any one band\, for that matter. But Good Shot Judy is as close as it comes to an intersection between an era’s defining sound and the pleasure of enjoying it the way it was meant to be heard. \n  \n\n\n$20/$25 \nBuy now \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Free Show with Ranford Almond
DESCRIPTION:FREE \nBuy now \n\n\n  \n\nJoin us in Gloucester\, VA on 7/5 to hear Ranford Almond\, a young singer/songwriter and troubadour that has begun to make his mark across the Southeast! For the holiday weekend\, this show is FREE to all guests. The show starts at 6:30pm. The doors and Get Cheesy food truck open at 5:30pm. The show is set to be outside – bring a lawn chair! No coolers\, cups or\, outside drinks\, please. \nAbout the Artist: \nBringing the soul from Greensboro\, North Carolina\, Ranford Almond is a young singer/songwriter and troubadour that has begun to make his mark across the Southeast. Raspy fresh vocals meet the Appalachian strings of Ranford’s guitar\, reminiscent of John Prine and Townes Van Zandt with his own unique stamp. Furthermore\, his talent extends far beyond composition and acoustic picking\, as he is a warrior on the electric as well. Ranford plays as a solo artist and leads a full band. \nRanford Almond’s forthcoming full length debut Old Soul is due to arrive in 2023 and demonstrates the evolution of Almond’s ability as he grows as both a writer\, arranger\, and player. The album\, recorded at Ovation Sound\, will feature a litany of nationally recognized guests\, as well as the tutelage of its producer\, Bill Stevens. \nIn addition to Almond’s studio explorations\, his live history is evident of his growth on stage. Spreading beyond its home of the Piedmont Triad\, it has begun to meet new stages and audiences. Festival appearances include Mountain Music Festival\, Shakori Hills\, The New River Gorge Festival\, The Big What?\, Trail Days\, The Casual Campout\, and more. Other notable stand alone plays include headlining the grand opening of The Flat Iron\, appearing under the lights on the big screen of Winston Salem’s Drive In\, a feature and headlining appearance of the North Carolina’s “Writer’s In The Round” series and its live counterpart Singers & Songbirds. As of Winter 2023\, Almond made his Colorado debut as a solo artist in Steamboat Springs\, following his prior guest appearances with Big Something in the region. \nRanford’s live collaborative projects link him to significant established talent as well. Red Panda is a six-piece unit that sees him join forces with the likes of Nick MacDaniels with whom he also shares a duo\, and Jesse Hensley\, both of Big Something. Ranford can be found fronting a trio with Daniel Yount (Super Yamba Band)\, and Seth Barden\, two staples of the New York City scene. \n“Mature. These days\, it is not a term commonly used to describe someone of Ranford Almond’s age. However\, young Ranford displays a maturity in his songwriting that belies his young 23 years of age. Throughout his journey of folksy tunes\, abundant with lyrical depth and emotional songwriting\, it can be easy for the listener to mistake these songs as those of a much more rugged and traveled character\, grizzled by years of burden and heartbreak.”\n-Ryan McBrayer\, The Jamwich \n \n  \n\n\nFREE \nBuy now \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Lord Nelson Band
DESCRIPTION:$20/$25 \nBuy now \n\n\n  \nLord Nelson is original rock and roll from the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Drawing on a past of camp fire sing a-longs\, barn parties\, metal thrashing\, and Unitarian hymnals\, Kai Crowe-Getty (guitar\, vocals)\, Bram Crowe-Getty (drums)\, Henry Jones (trombone\, vocals)\, Adam Wilson (bass)\, and Taylor Vactor (guitar) play music with a sense of tradition and belonging. \nThe show starts at 6:30pm. \n \nAfter several years of touring the country\, playing clubs\, barns\, festivals\, and everything in between\, Lord Nelson set out to take a batch of road tested songs into the studio\, with a very simple goal in mind: make a record that sounds like a bar show. Using a converted barn to track the record\, guitarist Calloway Jones and collaborator Ivan Barry engineered two sessions across a few weeks\, and the bones of an album were fitted into a suit. \nWith two previous studio records under their belt\, the band were looking for a way to create a calling card for their boisterous live act\, something that would bridge the gap between studio and performance. For the first time\, this record features three writers and vocalists\, with brothers Henry and Calloway Jones contributing to Kai Crowe-Getty’s set of songs. Rounding out the group are Andrew Hollifield and Niko Cvetanovich on bass\, Johnny Stubblefield on drums\, and Dave Pinto on pedal steel and harmonica. The collection of songs by Kai Crowe-Gett\, marks a wide range of stories and characters\, but there is a creeping lightness that settles around the edges of what could be darker themes in other hands. From car crashes\, murder\, bank robberies\, devotion\, trucks in lakes\, drug busts\, and relationships\, to hope\, triumph\, and over coming the odds\, this record engages a wide view of the human experience. \nSeeking to move through recording quickly release the album so they could get back on the road\, those plans came to a sudden halt with the pandemic\, like the rest of the world. Does the world need this music now? Will it ever see the light of day? These were common thoughts over the preceding year. Finishing vocals in blanket forts\, tracking guitars in an old farm house\, and sending to friends to record parts enabled this process to grow and change slightly with the enforced break from touring. It allowed the band to pause and take in the songs and choices with a bit more thought. It changed the work and brought a reexamination. But ultimately\, this record intends to bring people together. Dance\, sing in the car\, hum under your breath\, crank up on the stereo\, don’t take life too seriously for a few minutes. This January\, Lord Nelson are finally ready to share their third full length album\, Transmission. Thanks for tuning in. \n  \n\n\n$20/$25 \nBuy now \n\n\n

The songwriter and multi-instrumentalist brings southern rock\, gospel\, and blues to stages across the coast. But Daniel wasn’t always chasing his dreams. \nIn the winter of 2013\, during a dinner party in Bushwick\, Brooklyn\, Kevin received a phone call from his sister that would change everything. His mother and stepfather\, adventure-seekers and amateur pilots\, had been flying back from their mountain house in western North Carolina when their plane had crashed\, killing both of them. Daniel’s life was turned upside down\, his family torn apart and the world forever changed. During his return to North Carolina to help with family business\, and while reliving his parent’s lives through photos\, essays\, and family stories\, Kevin wrote over a dozen songs\, all fueled by the grief of losing his parents as well as the celebration of the large lives they were known for. From those songs six were chosen to record\, including one written specifically for Kevin’s parent’s memorial service. \nKevin followed up his sophomore release with his first full length LP\, ‘Things I Don’t See’. The 11-song album brings together some of New York state’s most talented musicians and producers\, including Anthony Krizan (Spin Doctors)\, The Restless Age\, John LeDeau (The National Reserve)\, and Kenny Siegel (Old Soul Studios). SUMMARY:St. Patrick's Day with Poisoned Dwarf
DESCRIPTION:$20.00 \nBuy now \n\n\n  \nHappy St. Patrick’s Day! The show with Poisoned Dwarf is indoors starting at 7pm. Arrive as early as 6pm to explore a special menu presented by Gumbeau’s. Seating is first come\, first serve. \nPoisoned Dwarf is a Celtic music group that plays virtuosic\, innovative and passionate renditions of traditional Irish and Scottish music on acoustic instruments. Thomas DeRose\, Mei-Li Garcia\, Wayne Hill\, Lance Pedigo\, and Patrick Rooney are five talented musicians who create a driving sonic energy that has been captivating audiences for over a decade with whistles\, flutes\, violin\, guitar\, percussion\, and Uilleann pipes together with exciting and lyrical vocals. They perform at a wide variety of musical venues from highland festivals to theaters\, from churches to sophisticated listening venues throughout the East Coast\, to the occasional pub just for fun. \nSo what is a Poisoned Dwarf? Well\, it depends on whom you ask: Musicians say it’s the name of a famous bagpipe tune; Disappointed competitors say it’s what you call an unfriendly judge; Historians enjoy telling the story of the nickname the citizens of Midden\, Germany gave the quarrelsome “Scottish Rifles” battalion posted in in their town after World War II; Others say\, it’s just a clever term for cranky Scotsman. We like to think it’s a fun term for a rollicking\, fast-paced\, friendly group of musicians who love to play traditional Celtic music with a twist. \n  \n\n\n$20.00 \nBuy now \n\n\n

Arrive early to find your seat\, grab a drink\, and meet someone new! \nAbout the Band:\nBuffalo Rose is a charismatic six-piece modern folk/Americana band from Pittsburgh\, PA. They take the singer-songwriter tradition to a new level by crafting original songs which are emotive\, meticulously arranged\, and inspired by a world of idiosyncratic influences that never let a dull or predictable moment creep in. \nThe band’s most recent release Again\, Again\, Again has brought forth a shimmering and sophisticated sound to their well crafted songs. A follow up to their 2022 EP Rabbit\, a project created in collaboration with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Tom Paxton\, they released two records last year and show no signs of slowing down. Their 2018 debut album\, The Soil and the Seed\, established them as a vocal\, instrumental\, and creative force. Since then\, Buffalo Rose has dropped two EPs\, 2019’s Big Stampede and 2020’s Borrowed and Blue\, opened for the Wood Brothers\, Mipso\, Pokey LaFarge\, Tyler Childers\, Infamous Stringdusters\, and shared a festival stage with the legendary Sam Bush. \nBuffalo Rose’s lineup of Lucy Clabby (vocals)\, Margot Jezerc (vocals)\, Bryce Rabideau (mandolin)\, Malcolm Inglis (dobro)\, Jason Rafalak (upright bass)\, and Shane McLaughlin (guitar\, vocals) pushes itself and each other far beyond their perceived limits and blends their diverse and atypical approach to songwriting with the desire to see how unique a song can get and still feel like home. They use powerful vocal harmonies\, strong playing\, and an original vision to operate at every possible emotional level and put on dynamic live shows that are unforgettable experiences. They go from up and moving to sad and sweet and back again\, bringing the entire audience along. \nThis combination of artistry and enthusiasm makes Buffalo Rose one of the most vital and important groups working today. Rather than play the folk music of the past\, the band gleefully combines genres and ideas together to move acoustic music forward to a new\, contemporary place without ever losing sight of its roots. Fans of Lake Street Dive\, Nickel Creek\, and Punch Brothers will find much to like in this crew. Anyone seeking compelling new acoustic music needs to join Buffalo Rose in the future right now. \n \n  \n\n\n$20.00 \nBuy now \n\n\n
